You don’t need a new you, you need a realistic one
Another year, another chance to set the best New Year’s resolutions and become a New You.With the change of a clock at midnight, you suddenly become a completely new person. Your problems are gone. Your life is more stable. Your routine magically becomes perfect. You finally have time to finish that project you’ve been thinking about for years, train for a marathon, hit the gym for over an hour six times a week, and get eight hours of sleep every night. Wait a second. Isn’t that what happens on December 31st at midnight? Don’t you let go of last year’s version of yourself and wake up as a whole new person? Doesn’t your life suddenly fall into place?
So why do you keep setting goals and resolutions that aren’t aligned with your real life? Why do you keep trying to fit into lifestyles and routines that someone else said worked for them, only to end up frustrated and feeling like a failure a few weeks later? And don’t get me wrong, I’ve been there. I completely understand the desire to change and become better when a brand-new year is ahead of us. But if that strategy had truly worked in the past, you wouldn’t be setting the same resolutions year after year. And as someone who has been exactly where you are (and as your fitness bestie) I need to tell you this: YOU DON’T NEED A NEW YOU. YOU NEED A REALISTIC ONE.
You deserve to start the year full of motivation, goals, and ready to conquer the world. But you also deserve to finish the year feeling accomplished, excited, and proud of yourself. And to get to the end of 2026 feeling like the best version of yourself, you can (and should) start now. Start by letting go of the pressure and acknowledging that your routine is yours and no one else’s. With all the craziness, the busy days, the lack of motivation on some days, the not-so-healthy meals after long workdays, and the cravings. THIS IS YOUR REALITY. Even if it’s not the ideal reality you want, you need to accept it and find ways to create change that fit your right now. Being realistic is the first step toward lasting change. Not an easy step, but an extremely necessary one to find doable ways to get you where you want to be. The journey toward your goals should fit your life, whether you’re aiming to eat healthier or lose 100 pounds. It doesn’t matter how big your goal is, you need A PLAN THAT FITS YOUR LIFE.
Don’t get me wrong here. I don’t want you to accept your reality and live like that forever. I want you to dream big and achieve even bigger things. I want you to be bold and not afraid to put that crazy goal of yours on your New Year’s resolutions list. But I also want you to be patient and set a plan that gets you there one step at a time. It took you years to get where you are and to build the habits you have, so changing them is not something that will happen overnight.
Dream big and set crazy goals. Acknowledge your reality. Create a plan that fits your right now. Be patient. Be consistent. Achieve what once felt impossible, one step at a time. Sudden changes can be exciting, but lasting changes are so much better. You deserve to live in your dream body, with your dream habits, for life.
